Words of Inspiration and Motivation

"Children must have atleast one person who believes in them. It could be a counselor, a teacher, a preacher, a friend. It could be you. You never know when a little love, a little support will plant a small seed of hope."
-Marian Wright Edelman

"Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it."
- Marian Wright Edelman

"The question is not whether we can afford to invest in every chid; it is whether we can afford not to."
- Marian Wright Edelman

"How all teachers can (and must) be reading teachers"
-Doug Lemov

"Teach kids how to do things right, don't just establish consequences for doing them wrong"
-Doug Lemov

"I wanted to make a real contribution to the world and fix all the injustices in the world through teaching"

Personal Childhood Web

Mom:
My mom is a very caring person; she will do anything to help anyone and is always there for you. Growing up my mom made sure that I had everything I needed. She was also there to support me with school, friends, and a person to talk to. My mom would come to all school events, sporting events and anything else you would want you mom at. I was a shy little girl and I always wanted my mom around.
My Mom has taught me how to be a woman. She has been a great role model as to how to raise a family and balance all aspects of life at the same time. To this day my Mom will drop everything to come help me if needed. She supports me in everything I do. I know I can trust my mom to give me the guidance I need. I am grateful for the help and support I still receive from my Mom.

Dad:
I am for sure a “daddy’s girl”. Growing up I always wanted to be around my Dad. My Dad has a softer side where he would do anything for me or my sister. When my Mom would say no I knew I could go to my Dad and get what I wanted. My Dad was my soccer coach all throughout my childhood. He was there at every game, cheering me on and teaching me how to be a great teammate as well as a strong an independent woman. My Dad is hardworking, and has shown me that if you work hard, good things will come your way. He has taught me to believe in myself and to not listen to what others say. My Dad continues to share his great wisdom with me each and every day and encourages me to be the best person I can be. He always reminds me that “today is a new day”.

Becca:
I am lucky enough to have grown up with a sister who is only 16 months younger than me. My sister is my best friend, we do almost everything together. When we were younger, we were always there for each other and we always had someone to play with. As we have grown up, I have learned how thankful I am to have a sister and for the bond that we have created. My sister has taught me what it means to truly have a best friend. My sister inspires me each day as she helps young children with their battle against cancer. She inspires me to be the best I can be in my career.

Elementary school teacher Mrs. Julie
Throughout school I really struggled with reading and Mrs. Julie was there for me. She would stay after school to help me with my homework, and tutored me over the summer. Mrs. Julie was a caring teacher and she truly looked out for her students. I knew that I could trust Mrs. Julie and that she cared about my future. Mrs. Julie is the teacher who inspired me to get involved with Early Childhood Education. Looking back on the relationship I had with her in school reminds me of the kind of teacher I hope to be. To this day Mrs. Julie looks out for me and encourages me to do my best.

"Be the person you needed when you were younger."

"Be the person you needed when you were younger."

I love this quote and the message it portrays. When I was younger school did not come easy for me. Being an educator I am able to relate to students who may struggle in school like I did. This quote reminds me that I can help my students have a different school experience then I did.

My Favorite Childhood Book:

"Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell

"Owl Babies" is about a family of baby owls. Their mother leaves their nest to go find food. While she is gone, the baby owls worry that their mother is not going to come back. This was one of my favorite stories from when I was little.

I like to share this book with my students whenever I get the chance.  Even though this story is about a mother and her babies, I believe it portrays the message that someone will always be there for you whether it is your Mom, Dad, teacher, etc.  I believe this is an important message for young children to understand.

Hello!

My name is Brianna Pierce. I am very excited to start this course and start the process of getting my Master's!
I was born and raised in the Baltimore area and I love watching the Ravens and Orioles play. I plan to stay in this area for a couple more years and then eventually move down south! This is my second year as a third grade teacher in Baltimore County. I went to Towson University and received my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I have always loved working with children and being a part of their day.
In my spare time I love to play with my dog Camden, spend time with my family and go to the beach! One of my favorite things to do over the summer is travel! I have never been out of the country so that is defiantly a goal of mine!
I look forward to hearing from everyone!
