"There's more to life than just what's inside your neighborhood"

Love the words of inspiration and wisdom. I also picked the same quote from Louise Derman Sparks. I truly like the words of Raymond Hernandez because of the fact that at times we become so wrapped up in our daily lives that we forget to realize that their is so much more to life then what is around us.

Brianna,
This quote reminded me of a story I was told by a home childcare provider about finding a child who could have been punished, but instead made it a teaching moment. The child had twisted the valve behind the toilet tank in the bathroom and flooded the bathroom. When asked why he did it, the child responded "I wanted to see what would happen". That was a fair answer! So, the caregiver showed the child how to put the valve back, clean up the flood, and work a washer and dryer for the first time. Every moment is a teaching moment. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteThis quote is very inspiring as a teacher! You could be the only person in a child's life that believes them. It is your job to make sure you are not only an advocate for that child but a mentor and leader in their educational life. As teachers, we plant seeds in our student's life each day. Every word we tell them each day should inspire their future.
Brianna, I loved reading your quotes! So inspiring. Especially the words of Marian Wright Edelman. I can not wait to learn more about her. I also love both quotes from Ms. Derman-Sparks and Mr. Hernandez, I too want to fix all the injustices and show my babies there is a big world, that they can be a part of. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteThis quote is so inspiring, and important to remember. As teachers, we always have a vision for how we want our class to look, act, and learn. It's important to connect that vision of our classes, to the entire community and how we want the current and future community to look, act, and learn. Speaking about improving the lives of others is one thing, but as teachers we actually get to act upon this and see a difference. Our jobs are bigger than ourselves, and we help to shape how those children will grow and how they will affect their own communities in the future.
Love your words of inspiration. Especially the 2nd quote from Marian Wright Edelman. As teacher I believe we carry an intricate role of creating our future community!

"The question is not whether we can afford to invest in every chid; it is whether we can afford not to." This quote resounds with me when I think of my own children and the children that I serve. The investment can mean many things; being that one person who believes in their unique abilities.
