Jobs/Roles in the ECE Community: Internationally

Throughout my research, I have three ECE jobs that would be of interest to me. Some of the positions I found work throughout the world, while others focus on both the United States and the World.

The organizations I chose to share are:

UNICEF appealed to me because this organization helps provide opportunities for young children in several different countries in order to provide these children with the support they need to have a successful future. This organizations work ranges from providing educational support, to vaccinations, placing children in a well fitted family and also assisting with environmental changes among other supports (United Nations Children’s Fund, (n.d.). An available position that has caught my attention is a Child Survival and Development Specialist. This job requires an individual to work closely with the organization in order to help provide survival and developmental needs for young children and women. This job would require travel to Africa for an opportunity to work hands on with different members involved with UNICEF. This individual would need leadership skills as they would be responsible for providing support to others as well as experience working in foreign counties.

Bernard Van Leer Foundation also caught my interest because they believe if we make changes early in a child’s life, it could have a major impact on their future and I strongly agree with this. This organization focuses on providing young children with opportunities for schooling, as well as resources to aid in their development while also providing support for pregnant moms to ensure they have access to proper healthcare and nutrition while pregnant (Bernard Van Leer (n.d.). There are currently no job openings with this organization, but becoming a board member would be an intriguing profession to hold. These individuals help fulfill the vision of the organization by creating partnerships with different groups that will help the organization become successful. These individuals would need to have early childhood education experience as well as leadership skills in order to work collaboratively with individuals throughout different countries.

Save the Children is another organization that I was drawn to as I particularly like how this organization works globally as well as in the United States. As I explored this organization further I found information regarding support for children who have social and emotional learning difficulties which I believe is a great focus. This organization offers programs to support these children in order to help them learn appropriate coping strategies. This organization has several jobs available. One job is a head start teacher where you are responsible for helping to foster the growth of children’s development as well as meeting the standards of the program. This individual should have a degree in early childhood education as well as experience working with young children while building collaborative relationships with coworkers. A site coordinator was also intriguing as this individual is responsible for implementing after school programs for young children which focuses on enrichment activities and provides healthy choices for children. These individuals need strong communication skills as well as experience working with young children. Leadership skills for both positions would be beneficial in either case as both jobs would require the individual to take charge of the situation.

  1. Brianna,
I enjoyed reading the organizations you chose to explore further. I also like UNICEF and their global mission to ensure healthy development of children.I feel it would be worthwhile to be a part of many of their programs. I also like Bernard Van Leer Foundation's philosophy that early intervention is vital to the success of a child's healthy development. I noticed that several of us chose the organization Save the Children. I also noticed the head start position on their website. The job position I chose on the Save the Children website is the Diversity and Inclusion officer.
All of these organizations fight for worthy causes. Being a part of any of them would be rewarding.

  2. Brianna,

Each of these organizations contribute a lot to children around the world, and would be great organizations for you to work with! I also wrote about a job opportunity with UNICEF in my blog and love the work that they do. They have so many different projects in different countries around the world, and the Child Survival and Development Specialist job you mentioned seems critical to ensure the health and well being of people in Africa. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Hi Brianna,
I selected two of the three organizations you chose. And I understand the appeal of working to ensure that all children have a chance to live and succeed. We are fortunate in that we can do our part in our own cities. Because in some of the countries without the external help no one is doing the work. If I were able to work for one of these organizations I would be ecstatic knowing my contributions meant life for some children. Great Blog!
